Agency Randomness Chaos started as an exploration of non-linear musical composition (the installation itself might be considered an automatic instrument). As the structure of ARC progressed it seemed natural to invite a live, non-automatic element into the ARC environment. Live performances expand the metaphorical aspects of ARC by demonstrating the interaction between the chaotic—determined—elements of the installation’s randomized sound and the performer’s agency. The performer has the ability to 1) work within and create meaning from meaninglessness, 2) adjust the performance to comply with an imposed meaning, and 3) work against imposed meaning to create new meaning. 

Anyone interested is invited to perform. The ARC Calendar will let you know when performance time is available. Let us know when you’d like to perform by contacting us at audiopest@gmail.com and we’ll schedule with the gallery staff to turn off the recorded interviews and music. You can also arrive and ask the gallery staff yourself—but if we’re available we’d love to see and record your performance. If that terrifies you then please tell us about your experience. We’ll also record your involvement below.
