Here are my friend Lesli Summer Stay’s recordings of Leslie Norris. Lesli took Leslie’s classes in 2000 and 2001 and had the foresight to make recordings. As you’ll hear, they aren’t perfect. 10 years later Lesli says, “I feel a lot of regret that I didn't buy a better recording device, or at least just use one tape for each class, so that there was less turning over and less forgetting to turn it over, etc etc.”.
Ces’t le vie.
I’ll post the classes as they are digitized—there are many. Lesli recorded two semester’s worth. The first set are Leslie’s Creative Writing 518 and the second Leslie’s Romantic Literature 374. Of the latter Lesli says, “As poor as the quality from my cheap little tape recorder is, it gets worse half way thru the 300 level class. One of the other students walked by my desk during class and their backpack accidentally smacked my recorder all the way across the room, and after that the sound quality was even worse.”.
Ces’t le vie. Is there a Welsh analog for ces’t le vie?
If anyone is interested in finding links to anything referenced in the lectures I’d be happy to post these on audiopest. If there are particular quotes that stand out to you I’ll post those as well. Such as this one Lesli likes:
"You will make the same mistakes all through your life. This is how you think. You make the same mistakes, always. But if you know the kinds of mistakes that you make, it's a lot easier to put them right." Minute 25:15, Sept 9 2000.
